This is a Proto Application inspired by a forum post which you can read here: http://protosw.com/forums/general/17
The idea is to load in a set of fundamental data from a spreadsheet (coming from Capital IQ in this case) and then run a simple LBO model for each of the companies. The LBO model is set up in the spreadsheet as well.
Proto goes through each company, pushes the relevant data to Excel, then stores the IRR calculated from the model along with the fundamental data back in Proto.
There are a couple parameters which you can set for all the companies using sliders in Proto. These are the percent of Equity used in the LBO, the Premium Paid, and Sales Growth.
The output data is shown both in a Table sorted by IRR and a scatter plot that allows you to select what parameter to show versus IRR. So you could look at IRR versus EBITDA for example.
You can select companies on the graph using the mouse (click and drag a rectangle or click on a single point) to see the tickers.
