Description
This application uses a Google Spreadsheet to keep a few sets of information about restaurants online. It's a perfect use for an online spreadsheet to make it easy to share and edit information in one accessible place with your roommates, friends, or office buddies.
You can keep track of:
Restaurants, Comments (for each one), and "Default orders" like who gets what from the Thai place for lunch.
Then in Proto all of the restaurants are put on a Yahoo! map like your own personal Zagat guide. Click on any one and you get the full details like phone number, comments (by people who can edit the google spreadsheet), and default orders.
You can add columns to the google spreadsheet and they will automatically show up in Proto as restaurant details and filtering options. Some of the columns are 'hard coded' so don't change the ones that are there unless you can pop up the hood and do a little Protoing on your own.
Also - there are a number of modules that use the GData APIs on the component library that allow you to 1) login to Google Spreadsheets, 2) get the list of available spreadsheets/ sheets and 3) create, read, update, and delete rows in a spreadsheet. Just search for "GData" in the Proto search or browse the component library to use them. Check back soon for more examples showing how to use Google Spreadsheets as free, online databases.
Enjoy!
