Printing and Screenshots
Visual Output From Proto
This article explains how to print from Proto and how to take screenshots from within Proto.
Introduction
It is often desirable to print out the graphs, charts, tables, and other elements displayed in the Viewer of a custom module. In addition, you might want to incorporate these images into another document such as a PowerPoint presentation. In Proto, you can easily print views of individual Viewer elements or the entire Viewer or take screenshots that are saved to the clipboard.
Printing the Viewer
The entire Viewer can be printed by selecting Print Viewer… from the File menu. To see how the Viewer controls will be laid out on the page before printing, select Print Preview Viewer… from the File menu. This opens a window displaying how the Viewer controls will appear when printed.
Printing Table Data
Table controls in the Viewer can be printed independently of the rest of the controls on the Viewer. To print a table right-click on it and select Print from the menu. To display a preview of what the table will look like on the page when printed, right-click on a table and select Print Preview. The size and formatting of the printed table is separate from how large the control is displayed in the Viewer. The table is fit to the size of the page and resized to display all rows and columns.
Printing Embedded Flash Movies
Currently Proto is unable to print Flash movies displayed in the Viewer. When a Viewer containing a Flash movie is printed, a placeholder icon of a puzzle piece is printed in place of the Flash movie.
Screenshots of the Viewer
Screenshots of the Viewer can be captured to the clipboard and then pasted into other programs. To capture the Viewer as it is currently displayed, right-click on the background of the Viewer window and select Copy Image. The image can then be pasted into another program. In this way images from custom modules can be incorporated into other documents.
Screenshots of Individual Viewer Controls
It is also possible to capture screenshots of individual Viewer controls to the clipboard. To do so, right-click on the control to be captured and select Copy Image. The image will be copied to the clipboard and can then be pasted into other programs and incorporated into other documents. This is especially useful for capturing a specific chart or graph generated by a custom module.
